French Girl Style

Hi Everyone!
There's something about Parisian style that's so trendy, yet timeless and elegant at the same time. The internet is full of articles and videos about how to nail this French Girl Style. I believe the feature that appeals to people the most is the effortlessness of this attitude, and it's something that I aspire to achieve as well.

Yay, I have a pinterest board for this style!
In this post, I'll be exploring both the fashion and the beauty behind the look.
Firstly, the makeup is a 'no-makeup' look, excluding the signature red lip. Use natural colours that compliment your skin tone and don't go overboard on the smoke. I'd personally stay away from black liner or mascara if you have fairer skin and hair, and instead, opt for a brown pencil and mascara instead. As for the skin, make that the most important area of your face. It must be well looked after, that way you don't need heavy foundation (and then it's very possible to hold back the endless cycle of breakouts and strong coverage, and more breakouts and stronger coverage. Beauty and health, we're killing two birds with one stone!).

Now as for fashion, every article I read about how to master French Girl style is slightly different, but that just goes to show the subjective side of fashion. I'll describe the basics that I've picked up. You'll want straight leg pants, good tailored outerwear, and at least one striped shirt somewhere in your wardrobe. Like our minimalists, less is more, so invest in good quality pieces, even if it means sacrificing wardrobe size. Silhouettes should also be classy, smart and relaxed. My all time favourite tip is mixing formal with casual pieces. I do this a lot when I style looks on Stardoll (and real life), where I'll pair heels/sandals with jeans and then throw a blazer on top, or sneakers with a dress.

I tried my hand at recreating this last tip, the juxtaposition, using the two examples I mentioned. One last honourable mention I have is the straw bag. This style may seek elegance, but they always seem to favour a straw texture over other more conventional ones such as leather. It's interesting, and I love it.
Usually to finish off, I'll mention good brands to get you on your way to applying this style to your own wardrobe, but I feel like this style picks individual pieces from all sorts of genres. Just keep repeating 'elegant' and 'effortless' to yourself while shopping, and you should be set!
Take care,
Joanne
