Albums to Fall Asleep To
If you're anything like me, the sound of music soothes you, making it easier for you to drift into a good night's sleep. I find that listening to audiobooks before bed works well too, as long as you are willing to fall asleep as the story unfolds and come back to it another time. A more classic form of audio that some like to listen to at that time are nature sounds or ASMR. I like popping a CD in my stereo, snuggling under my covers and letting the soft sound lull me to sleep.
Today I will be presenting you with a few of the albums I like to listen to best when I want to feel sleepy.
Let's start with The Best of Erik Satie. Piano music jumps to mind when I think of calmer music. As it says on the back of the CD case, "[Erik Satie's] music will be remembered for its wit, charm and, above all, for the sheer joy that it imparts.". His works are intriguing and light at times. They are a great pathway to your dreamscape.
Then, there's Kate Bush's 50 Words for Snow. I am already a fan of her other albums, but none are quite as mysterious and lowkey as this. Each of the songs pass the five-minute mark. So, if you are still having a sleepless night, her music and words will last with you. Above, you will hear an extract from Wild Man, her first single to come out after the release of Aerial.
I wanted to finish this short list with London Grammar's If You Wait. I chose this album, but in reality all of their music has the same soothing sound lead by Hannah Reid's entrancing vocals. Sometimes songs with lyrics can be distracting when you're looking to sleep, with this album that is not the case. Give the first track a listen, with its keyboard and guitar, and lyrics whose meaning is fuzzy.
Thank you for reading and good night!
