Budget Couture

Hi Everyone!

I've been pretty busy this week, so instead of exploring another style of fashion, I thought I'd stray away to something a little more Stardoll practical. Couture has always struck me as a very interesting area to invest time into. Beautiful and challenging, my heart totally understand how it draws audiences in, but at the same time, I wonder how you could ever connect this wonderfully impractical area of fashion into everyday life. Regardless, I can't complain, since I do play fashion shows on a side window while I'm writing my assignments and I always fawn over the beautiful gowns as I flick through Vogue's handy slideshows.

For this post, I created 2 outfits. For one look, I jumped straight into the deep end of couture, while the other one has just one wacky element to include into an otherwise normal outfit. Every single outfit is made entirely of starcoins, hence the word budget in my title.

Outfit 1! The items I used include:

- Shirred Bandeau Top (Vinyl): 150sc

- White Bow Pumps (Perfect Day): 80sc

- 3x White Pleated Skirt (Basics): 50sc

- 3x White Princess Ball Skirt (Voile): 84sc

The reason I had to include the skirts from Basics was because the Voile skirts have an unfortunate black waistband. When, the top skirt's waistband is hidden beneath the bandeau top, and the bottom two slip underneath the pleated skirts.

If you think this dress looks vaguely familiar, don't worry, you're not imagining things. Rihanna wore a dress with this same silhouette to the Grammys, complete with the distinct layers of tulle! In comparison, my dress looks quite plain, and I believe Rihanna's dress was once available on Stardoll in Young Hollywood (not 100% sure though.)

However, this is a starcoin only look and you get what you pay for. This isn't the most stunning gown, but it's certainly extra and a little extra. I wore this last year during MSW season, and I believe I blended right in with all the other legitimate Stardoll dresses!

Look 2! The items I used were:

- It Girls Bucket Hat (It Girls): 135sc

- Basic Coat Gray (Basics): 250sc

- Ribbed Mock Neck Tshirt gray (Basics): 120sc

- Cropped Top Longsleaves Pink (Basics): 110sc

- Skinny Jeans Woman (Vinyl): 180sc

- Metallic Silver Handbag (Velvet Orchid): 220sc

- Star Socks (Wild Candy): 101sc (I just want to add that these are my absolute favourite socks, cheap, cute and simple, a very good investment, in my opinion)

- Blush Wrapped Heels (Callie's Picks): 285sc

As you can probably see, the outfit looks perfectly normal up until the shoes. I've seen wrap heels in everyday fashion, but the fact that these are so chunky, with many layers of fabric, makes me think those shoes would look perfectly natural on the runway.

When styling this look, I first tied the pink of the heels with a top, before layering on basics so as to not overwhelm the outfit, but accentuate the statement heels. My natural habit to make sure an outfit 'works' is to ensure there are at least two items of each colour I choose. This ensures nothing looks out of place. It's a rather safe strategy and I hope to challenge myself and move away from that, but for now I find it helpful when styling items like those shoes.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Joanne
