Activewear
"Blurring the lines between fashion and fitness"
Hi everyone!
Today, I'm in the mood to explore a style that I really admire, but am also a little intimidated by. Activewear, on first glance generally sporty, a style that's more recently evolved into clothing that is socially acceptable to wear as everyday fashion.
I first noticed everyday activewear rising in popularity during 2017. As someone who only wore tights and graphic tees in my tween years, it's interesting to see fashion go full circle, in that a few years ago, wearing leggings in public would have been embarrassing for me, and yet today it's fashionably comfortable. Sometimes, if it's dressed up enough, even stylish.
Attached below are the kind of outfits I noticed as activewear was gaining grounds. In my experience, often simple, with leggings, oversized outerwear, performance bras, and statement colours and prints.
My early impression of activewear
More recently, however, I've noticed activewear pieces more subtly incorporated into street style and high fashion. The loose cut trend manifests itself in tracksuit style pants. Platforms and chunky shoes are also rising in popularity, and activewear grabs a piece of the action with 'dad' sneakers. Finally, who can forget bicycle shorts, which are a whole other trend of their own, and one of my personal favourites to experiment with.
A visual representation of the trends I mentioned above
Most of you would know Stardoll has a whole store devoted to this style; Active. However, I've noticed sporty pieces in other stores such as Vinyl, RIO, and Nelly.
As per usual, I'm going to be trying my hand at styling my doll in the topic; athleisure. Since bike shorts are my favourite trend, I'll be styling the two pairs I own in my wardrobe
These shorts are from Active, and come with a matching top as well. For this look, I mixed a collection tomboy pieces and my pastel palette to create an interesting composition. The thing I don't like about these shorts are the fact that they blend right into my skin. Am I even wearing pants? You'll never know.
In this look, the bike shorts are a mere 7sd from Vinyl. I dug up two of my rare statement pieces for this, the red puffer and this Evil Panda bag I received for free (from memory, an item reward from The Vote).
What are your thoughts on Activewear?
Take care,
Joanne
